In this IDC Flash the analysts provide their initial take on Printix. “Print hardware and software vendors should closely track Printix over the coming months. A new entrant in an already crowded market, Printix is taking a novel approach to addressing the low-end segment which is notoriously difficult for print hardware vendors to reach.”
On January 11, 2016, Danish startup Printix launched its first product, a cloud print management solution aimed at the SMB market.
Released as free software downloadable from Printix’ website, Printix Zero is designed to simplify most common print management aspects for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). This is mainly achieved by eliminating the need for a local print server. Once the software is installed, print queues are automatically managed on a public cloud while documents are printed locally using a peer-to-peer (P2P) network. The combination of the cloud offerings and the business model incorporating free and premium versions is likely to appeal to SMBs and looks set to disrupt the low end of the print services market.
